Suppliants of Syria

The project provides mutual benefits to both Turkey and the UK, encompassing cultural, social, and economic dimensions. The refugee question is a pressing concern for both countries, as they grapple with addressing the needs and rights of individuals undergoing forced migration while considering the impact on host societies. Despite the distinct contexts of Turkey and the UK regarding migration, both countries share similarities as they stand on the periphery of Europe and are no longer part of the EU. The creative dialogue fostered by artists from both countries, in collaboration with refugees themselves, holds the potential to transform perceptions and deepen understanding within and beyond Turkey and the UK. By combining performance and documentary elements, the project humanizes individuals who are often reduced to labels and statistics. Through cultural interventions, it offers alternative models for debate and consensus-building, promoting empathy and shifting the narrative surrounding refugees. Culturally, the project contributes to enriching artistic practices and encouraging cross-cultural exchange. Artists from both countries have the opportunity to learn from one another's approaches and perspectives, fostering a sense of shared humanity. This exchange of ideas and artistic techniques not only benefits the individuals directly involved but also has a broader cultural impact, nurturing a more inclusive and diverse creative landscape.
